5 Excavator Maintenance Tips You need to Know

Excavators are designed for rough and rigorous work. This means they need to be kept in good working condition. Here are 5 things you need to do regularly in order to extend the lives of these beautiful mechanical beasts.

1. Grease the pins and bushings regularly.

2. Use high-quality oil. I have come across people that use second-hand oil in their excavators! The little extra spent on higher quality oil will save you a huge chunk of money in the long term.

3. Regular inspection. You want to check for leaks and listen for irregular noises. You also want to pay attention to small parts such as ECMs and control boxes, not only large parts like final drives and engines.

4. Picking the correct bucket attachments: Make sure that the bucket attachments that you pick out for your excavator match the requirements of the excavator. The kind of bucket attachments can vary from standard, ditch, or even trench attachments and can be dependent on the way they will be used for unearthing.

5. Undercarriage and rubber track maintenance: Pay close attention to bolts, shoes, guards, and tracks and replace these parts when needed. It is also important to monitor the track tension and maintain rubber tracks on excavators.
